Recently Old Navy used some SistersGulassa prints and created the cutest dresses among other adorable styles!
I was so excited to see what they designed and how they used the patterns. All of the styles that I saw and the design details are so cute! I had a hard time deciding which colorways I liked best! Here are the Twins- Pretty Girls having fun and wearing pretty dresses! And the twins hard at play!
Recently at the National Gallery in London I saw a painting by Jean-Auguste-Dominique-Ingres, 1780-1867 titled Madame Moitessier. The detail was amazing- you could practically see the weave and feel the crispness of the silk taffeta. I could even hear the rustle of the dress-though she sat so still. It was stated that Ingres took 12 years to paint Madame Moitessier. I wondered how she felt about that- and how old she was when he first began the painting. So inspired my homage to Ingres and Madame Moitessier!
Is my impetuous, impatient nature more evident than now or what! I simply can't wait! Our FloorFlowers are actually packaged and ready to go, but pictures in situ need to be taken, uploaded into shop. You know, all that behind-the-curtain stuff. And my darling web guy has run off to exotic locales for weeeeeeks, and has left our half-finished new web site for the whole world to see! Oh dear! So, we are still about 2 weeks away. And in that time, I hope our WallRunners will be ready as well! Long strips of gorgeous patterning, a bit like a Japanese Obi sash, will be available to adorn interesting parts of your home or office. Can you wait? I know I can't! (If you are really salivating, just drop an email and we will sort you out prior to this date!)*
I shall delight to be with kind folks in my new home to be!
Ms.PatternofLife, you shall be meeting a fine new friend at a post box near you!
Thank you all for participating. Next Giveaway will be those yummy FloorFlowers!! So stay tuned! *
SneakPreview as Im just waaayyyy too excited to keep this all in! Our FloorFlowers are about to debut their fine selves at the Vienna Design Fair, Blickfang. Im in love with them!
Inspired by Cyrille's project- I promptly down loaded the printout of the little bird. I then took one of my favorite Agnes B sweaters that had two holes in the front of the sweater and cut out two little red birds using her pattern. I used another sweater that I cut up to create the birds and then stitched them down carefully with a blanket stitch using embroidery thread. Just one more way you can use the patterns! Now I can wear my sweater again! Thanks Cyrille!
Under the category "Investigation" is WGSN, VOGUE, STYLE.COM, and SISTERSGULASSA! Love how they think!
And even more spreads of our work and our creative process. Kinda cool indeed.
Yes, we skipped the summer months, but folks we are back in business, and for your kind patience we are giving away a piece of Real Art (capitals look nice with that), created by yours truly, 1 half of the SistersGulassa. It is a collage (25cm x 30cm) using ink, our prints and pattern tissue. It is YOURS if you simply leave a comment. Tell your friends. Find a place on your wall. And look forward. This time we will also ship on time. (Natalie, yours is in the post!) Thanks for staying in there! Promise lots more is in store! P.S. Contest ends Oct. 15th, 18:00 CET
New Camera. New Views. Newfound Happiness. New Blissssssssss.
Indulge me, if you would be so kind--Vienna is stocked, almost overloaded with such visuals. A dreammmmmmmmmm for folks like me!**
OK! Finally, finally, finally, the days will be called my own. Summer with a 6 year old and her first real vacation from school was at once wonderful to have so much time with her and frustrating that in all this time, I could carve none for what I needed to be doing. I wanted all my work and to-do's to have a summer vacation too, which actually they did, even though I fought it each day and hoped the next day, or the day after I might be able to squeeze in a bit of time for my growing pile of to-do's. Alas. And now that I have been out of the studio for so long, it feels daunting to go back. Do I remember how to draw and paint? Art treats me like an abandoned lover and makes me work to win him back. With full understanding, I attempt this week, my first free week, to win him back. Wonder if my charms will work. Work. That's just what it's all about right now. Hope your own work is working well! *
One of our coolest clients who also happens to be a terrifically cool guy sent these photos of what magic he created with our Love/Liebe print and his old cabinet. Could this be the same piece of furniture? How visionary is that? I like to think I have a creative side to me, but I could honestly never, ever, ever have been able to dream up that transformation! We love what people do with our stuff! And we love clients like him. Thanks Martin! *
Inspired by the shadows & the moon & the night sky lately. I have been exploring a subtle palette of greys. It is beginning to feel like fall is imminent. These are beautiful days of transition, opposite energies and amber sunsets! Enjoy them!
I love this variety of rose at the studio- it looks as if they are still dripping from the artist- who is hand painting each and everyone. And so I did too!
I am borrowing my daughter's little-girl camera, and she is getting frustrated at me using it, AND frustrated at the things I am taking pictures of--WHY, Mami, are you taking THAT? It is hard to explain to her little Viennese self that these kinds of things are just not prevalent in other parts of the world! And there is such beauty! Look, my girl! Vienna is incredibly rich in exactly these kinds of ways that maybe not every 6 year old would appreciate. But, my oh my, do I.
Every once in a while you meet someone who inspires you in ways you never would have expected. Dick is one of those people. I loved his photographs and art and his wacky sense of humor! This painting is one of the incarnations of Dick based on a self portrait from the 70's. I will miss him. I am glad we got a chance to reconnect lately!
